Description
This sample pack is made up of six tempo-based track building construction kits across a handful of genres: funk, synthwave/dreampop, French house, and shoegaze.
These kits serve as starting points, and even slight modifications can transform them into new genres.
The loops are either 2 or 4 bars long, with each instrument providing three loops per kit.
For tuned instruments, these loops are in three keys following a I, IV, V pattern, such as C, F, and G, or A, D, and E. All keys are major unless indicated with an 'm' suffix for minor (e.g., Am).
Some loops include a minor seventh, using the mixolydian mode.
Sustained instruments also contribute chord hits that fit the three keys/modes of their kits. These samples are designed to be cut up, mangled, spliced, mashed, and diced as needed.
Tips
- Genre Exploration: Start with the provided genres (funk, synthwave/dreampop, French house, and shoegaze) and experiment by mixing elements from different kits to create unique hybrid genres
- Key Modulation: Use the I, IV, V pattern in different keys to create chord progressions that fit your track. For example, if you start in C major (C, F, G), try modulating to A major (A, D, E) for a different feel
- Chord Hits: Utilize the chord hits provided by sustained instruments to add harmonic depth to your tracks. Layer these hits with other instruments to create rich, full-sounding sections
- Loop Manipulation: Cut, splice, and rearrange the 2 or 4-bar loops to fit your track's structure. This can help in creating variations and maintaining listener interest throughout the track
- Mode Variations: Experiment with the mixolydian mode (major scale with a minor seventh) to add a unique flavor to your tracks. This can be particularly effective in genres like funk and synthwave
