Description

Bit Fluzer by NUSofting is a dual-channel bitcrusher effect that goes beyond standard bit reduction. Each channel features its own input filter and independent bit depth control, ranging continuously from 1 to 20 bits.

One channel uses a lowpass filter while the other uses a highpass filter, allowing both to work independently on different sections of the audio spectrum. Each channel also includes a syncable LFO that modulates the amount of bit depth reduction applied to the signal.

This architecture lets you create a wide range of effects from subtle warmth to aggressive lo-fi textures. Gentle bit reduction adds soft analog-style noise, while deeper settings produce rhythmic distortion patterns and stuttered grooves.

The stereo field is also under your control, with per-channel panning plus global input gain and wet/dry mix. You can isolate low and high frequency bands for targeted processing, creating complex stereo bitcrushing effects that move and evolve with the LFOs.

Bit Fluzer supports both VST and Audio Unit formats on Windows and macOS. The plugin includes multiple GUI skins, letting you choose the interface appearance that fits your workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Bit Fluzer different from a standard bitcrusher?

Bit Fluzer uses a dual-channel architecture where each channel has its own input filter (lowpass on one, highpass on the other) and independent bit depth controls. This lets you apply different amounts of bit reduction to different frequency ranges simultaneously, which standard single-channel bitcrushers cannot do.

Can Bit Fluzer sync its LFOs to the DAW tempo?

Yes, both LFOs in Bit Fluzer are syncable, meaning you can lock the bit depth modulation to your project tempo. This makes it straightforward to create rhythmic bitcrushing patterns that stay in time with your track.

Is Bit Fluzer available for macOS?

Yes, Bit Fluzer is available for both macOS and Windows in VST and Audio Unit (AU) formats. The initial 2017 release was Windows-only, but the macOS version with AU support was added in a subsequent update.

Is bitcrushing similar to distortion?

Bitcrushing is a specific type of digital distortion that works by reducing the bit depth or sample rate of audio. While traditional distortion adds harmonic content through waveform clipping, bitcrushing introduces quantization noise and aliasing artifacts that produce a distinctly digital, lo-fi character.
