Description
T-RackS Classic Equalizer by IK Multimedia is a six-band parametric EQ originally conceived as a mastering processor. One of the earliest modules in the T-RackS series, it was built from the ground up for high-end stereo bus and master channel work.
The filter design strikes a balance between broad tonal shaping and surgical precision. Sweeping boosts can add air to the high end or fullness to the low end, while the peaking bands can be narrowed enough to notch out a single problem frequency without disturbing the surrounding spectrum.
Beyond mastering, it holds its own as a general-purpose mix EQ wherever transparent, colorless equalization is needed. L/R and M/S processing modes let you target the stereo or mid-side image independently, a feature that many stock DAW equalizers lack.
The interface centers on an interactive frequency curve display backed by individual band controls for gain, frequency, and Q. Built-in filter presets range from practical shelving curves to creative telephone and "through-the-wall" effects.
It ships as part of the T-RackS Custom Shop, which means you install the full host application and unlock the Classic Equalizer at no cost. The trade-off is that the remaining modules appear in trial mode, though they do not affect the equalizer's functionality.

Do I need to install the entire T-RackS suite to use the Classic Equalizer?
Yes, the Classic Equalizer is delivered through the T-RackS Custom Shop host application. You install the full suite, but the Classic Equalizer and Metering modules are unlocked without any purchase. The other modules appear in trial mode and do not interfere with the equalizer.
Can I use the Classic Equalizer on individual tracks or only on the master bus?
It works on both. While IK Multimedia designed it primarily for mastering, the transparent sound and flexible Q controls make it effective as a track-level EQ for vocals, drums, guitars, and other mix elements.
What is the difference between the L/R and M/S processing modes?
L/R mode applies EQ to the left and right channels independently, useful for correcting stereo balance issues. M/S mode separates the center (mid) and side information, letting you brighten the stereo width or tighten the bass in the center without affecting the other.
