Description

Flanger Box by Synthescience is a straightforward flanger effect plugin that covers classic flanging, chorus, and comb filtering from a single interface. The feedback control is the centerpiece, pushing the modulation from subtle chorus-like shimmer into the pronounced metallic swirl and jet-engine sweep that defines the flanger effect.

Five selectable LFO waveforms shape how the modulation behaves. Sine and triangle produce the smooth, sweeping tones associated with traditional flanging and chorus, while sawtooth, square, and random waveforms introduce rhythmic, stuttered modulation patterns suited to more experimental sound design.

A phase adjust knob widens the stereo image of the processed signal, and a wave invert function flips the LFO polarity to expand the tonal range further. Together these controls make it easy to move between tight, centered flanging and wide, immersive stereo modulation.

The plugin stores up to 64 user presets and ships with several factory patches that demonstrate its range from gentle chorus textures to aggressive through-zero-style flanging. Every parameter is fully automatable, making it practical for tempo-synced sweeps and filter builds in a mix.

Flanger Box is built with SynthEdit and runs as a 32-bit VST on Windows. Installation is simple: extract the DLL and drop it into your VST plugins folder with no installer or registration required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Flanger Box produce chorus effects as well as flanging?

Yes, Flanger Box can produce classic chorus tones by using the sine or triangle waveform with lower feedback and moderate depth settings. The underlying delay modulation is shared between chorus and flanger effects, so dialing back the feedback removes the metallic resonance and leaves a smooth, doubling-style chorus.

What are the random and square waveforms useful for?

The square and random LFO waveforms create rhythmic, stepped modulation rather than smooth sweeps. Square produces a hard toggle between two delay positions for a choppy, stuttering effect, while random introduces unpredictable sample-and-hold modulation useful for glitchy, experimental textures.

Does Flanger Box work in 64-bit DAWs?

Flanger Box is a 32-bit VST plugin, so it requires a 32-bit bridge like jBridge or the built-in bridge in some DAWs to run inside a 64-bit host. Many modern DAWs have dropped native 32-bit support, so check your DAW's compatibility before installing.

How do you get the classic jet-engine flanger sound?

Set the waveform to sine or triangle for a smooth sweep, then push the feedback control high. The feedback creates the pronounced resonant peaks that give flanging its characteristic metallic, jet-plane quality. Adjusting the rate control slows or speeds the sweep to taste.
