  • 20 built-in presets covering practical uses like fake sidechains, trance gates, and rhythmic filter sweeps

Description

Flux Mini 2 by Caelum Audio is a modulation effect plugin that injects rhythmic movement into any audio signal. It routes a drawable envelope graph through a multimode filter and amplitude modulator, letting you sculpt everything from subtle sidechain-style pumping to wild tempo-synced filter sequences.

The centerpiece is the customizable bezier curve graph, which drives modulation of four parameters simultaneously: filter cutoff, filter resonance, amplitude, and dry/wet mix. Each parameter has its own depth slider, so you can blend how aggressively the shape affects each target.

Three filter modes are available — low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass — covering tonal movement from deep bass sweeps to bright, cutting resonant patterns. The graph syncs to your DAW's tempo with divisions ranging from 1/32 triplets to 32 bars, or you can lock it to milliseconds for time-based effects independent of BPM.

MIDI triggering supports both one-shot and retrigger modes, making it responsive to performance input rather than just looping on a fixed grid. You can also output the graph as MIDI CC messages to drive parameters in other plugins across your session.

The updated GUI is spacious and modern compared to the original Flux Mini, with a live waveform visualizer that shows the modulation shape interacting with the audio in real time. Twenty presets cover practical starting points like fake sidechains, trance gates, pumping high-pass filters, and rhythmic pad modulations.

Flux Mini 2 runs on macOS 10.11+ (including native Apple Silicon support), Windows 7+, and iOS 11+ as a standalone or AUv3 app. Plugin formats include AU, VST3, and AAX on desktop, with AAX limited to 64-bit hosts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of plugin is Flux Mini 2?

Flux Mini 2 is a modulation effect plugin that uses a drawable graph to control a multimode filter and amplitude modulator. It creates rhythmic movement by modulating filter cutoff, resonance, amplitude, and mix in sync with your DAW tempo or at a fixed time interval.

Can Flux Mini 2 control other plugins via MIDI CC?

Yes. Flux Mini 2 can output its modulation graph as MIDI CC messages, allowing you to use it as an LFO source for other plugins in your session. This makes it useful beyond its own internal filter and amplitude controls.

How does Flux Mini 2 compare to Flux Pro?

Flux Mini 2 is the fully-featured freeware version from Caelum Audio. Flux Pro expands on it with additional filter types, more modulation targets, extra LFO shapes, and advanced routing options. For basic filter modulation and sidechain-style effects, Flux Mini 2 covers the essentials.

Does Flux Mini 2 support Apple Silicon Macs natively?

Yes. Flux Mini 2 runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) without Rosetta translation. It requires macOS 10.11 or higher and is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats on desktop.
