Description
K-Whooms is a virtual analog subtractive synthesizer by Hansen Audio designed to produce fat, full-bodied sounds with minimal effort. It features multi-oscillators with basic waveforms (sine, triangle, saw, and pulse), each capable of up to nine phases that can be spread and detuned for thick unison tones.
The oscillator section includes a noise generator with adjustable characteristics from blue through white to pink, plus panorama widening for the multi-oscillator stack. A modulation matrix with eight assignable slots routes two LFOs and an envelope to any parameter, with tempo-synced modulation updates.
The filter section offers 12 filter types including a ladder filter model, paired with an amplifier stage for volume and panning control. A built-in step sequencer creates rhythmic gate patterns, with simple distortion and stereo delay effects rounding out the processing chain.
K-Whooms supports VST3 Note Expression for per-note modulation of pitch, volume, pan, and other parameters. The GUI scales from 100% to 200% in four steps, and the synth supports sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 96 kHz.
K-Whooms is a VST3 plugin available for Windows and Linux. It first appeared in 2024 and was updated to version 2025.03, bringing it to wider attention through coverage on Bedroom Producers Blog.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does K-Whooms work on macOS?
No. K-Whooms is only available for Windows and Linux. There is no macOS version at this time. The developer has not announced plans for a Mac port.
What is Note Expression and which DAWs support it?
Note Expression is a VST3 feature that allows per-note modulation of parameters like pitch, volume, and pan. It is primarily supported in Steinberg DAWs such as Cubase and Nuendo, and in Bitwig Studio.
Can K-Whooms handle high sample rates?
Yes. K-Whooms supports sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, and 96 kHz, so it works at standard and higher quality recording settings.
Does K-Whooms include any built-in effects?
Yes. It has a simple distortion effect and a stereo delay built into the signal chain. These are not full-featured effects processors but are useful for adding character without loading additional plugins.
