Description

Lost-Tapes by SuperflyDSP is a lofi tape emulation effect that adds vintage warmth, saturation, and analog character to any signal. Rather than modeling a specific hardware unit, it uses custom algorithms to recreate the sonic fingerprint of aging tape machines — from subtle warmth to full-blown degradation.

The plugin features four distinct tape types (Broken, Lost-Tape, Old-Tape, and New) that primarily shape the frequency bandwidth of the effect. The Depth knob controls how much tape character is applied, while the Rate knob adjusts flutter frequency, together covering everything from gentle vintage warmth to wobbly, unstable tape artifacts.

A Crunch button adds extra harmonic distortion for more aggressive saturation, and the Artifact slider introduces glitchy digital-analog textures. The Mix control blends dry and wet signals, which can produce chorus-like widening effects when dialed carefully.

A dedicated Stereo mode adds unique wide stereo imaging, particularly effective on synth leads and electric keyboards. The Noise slider lets you dial in authentic tape hiss to complete the vintage aesthetic.

Lost-Tapes runs on a strong anti-aliasing algorithm while keeping CPU usage low. The resizable GUI has a retro design that matches the old-school sound it delivers, and built-in presets make it quick to get started.

Frequently Asked Questions

What plugin formats does Lost-Tapes support?

What do the four tape types in Lost-Tapes do?

The four tape types — Broken, Lost-Tape, Old-Tape, and New — primarily affect the frequency bandwidth of the effect. Broken provides the most degraded and lo-fi character, while New offers a cleaner tape tone with less coloration.

How does Lost-Tapes compare to other tape emulation plugins?

Users on Plugins4Free note that Lost-Tapes has its own distinct vibe compared to other tape plugins like ChowTape and Caelum Tape Cassette 2. The saturation character and stereo widening effect are particularly praised as standout features.

Does Lost-Tapes work on Linux?

Yes, Lost-Tapes supports Linux 64-bit in addition to Windows 7/8/10/11 and macOS. A separate Linux VST3 build is available for download.
