Key Features

  • Dual oscillators with 256 SF2-based PCM waveforms each, drawn from six curated HG Fortune waveset collections
  • 24dB lowpass filter with per-voice resonance for shaping harmonic content across the frequency spectrum
  • Four LFOs including an SLFO plus a dedicated sample-and-hold generator for evolving modulation patterns
  • Two independent ADSR envelope generators controlling filter cutoff and amplitude separately
  • BassEnhancer module that reinforces low-end frequencies independently from the main signal color
  • Built-in Spook B effect processor adding HG Fortune's signature otherworldly tonal coloration
  • BPM-synced delay effect integrated directly into the signal chain for rhythmic spatial depth

Description

Plutonia by HG Fortune is a dual-oscillator synthesizer built around SF2 soundfont waveforms. Each oscillator draws from a curated bank of 256 PCM waves sourced from HG Fortune's own waveset collections, including Athmonia-a and Seamless Textures, both generated from image-to-audio conversion techniques.

The synthesis engine pairs a 24dB lowpass filter with resonance per voice alongside four LFOs and a sample-and-hold generator. Two dedicated ADSR envelope generators handle filter and amplitude modulation independently, giving each patch its own movement and decay character.

Beyond standard subtractive shaping, Plutonia includes a BassEnhancer for reinforcing low frequencies and HG Fortune's signature Spook B effect processor for adding otherworldly coloration. A BPM-synced delay rounds out the built-in effects.

The plugin ships with 128 presets spanning lush evolving pads, dense atmospheric textures, and deep bass tones. Users consistently praise the synth's ability to produce rich, immersive soundscapes that sit well in ambient and cinematic contexts.

Plutonia runs as a 32-bit VST plugin on Windows. HG Fortune, the developer behind dozens of experimental synthesizers, passed away, and the plugin is now maintained as a community archive on neocities.org and archive.org.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wavesets are included with Plutonia?

Plutonia ships with six built-in waveset collections from HG Fortune: AlioModularity, HGF Best of #1, HGF Best of #2, Athmonia-a, Seamless Textures, and HGF Retro Set. The Athmonia-a and Seamless Textures sets are unique because they were generated from image-to-audio conversion techniques.

Can Plutonia load external SF2 soundfont files?

Plutonia is designed around its built-in waveset library of 256 PCM waveforms per oscillator. The plugin uses SF2 soundfont technology internally, but the wavesets are pre-loaded rather than user-importable.

Is Plutonia still available since the developer passed away?

Yes. HG Fortune's synthesizer collection, including Plutonia, has been preserved by the community. The complete archive is hosted on hgfortune.neocities.org and archive.org, where all plugins remain available for download.

Does Plutonia work in 64-bit DAWs?

Plutonia is a 32-bit VST plugin. To use it in a 64-bit DAW, you will need a bridging tool such as jBridge or 32 Lives. These tools wrap 32-bit plugins so they can run inside 64-bit host applications.
