Description

Raizes Player is a hybrid instrument platform from ZAK Sound that combines advanced sampling with wavetable synthesis. Previously available only when purchasing a ZAK Sound instrument, version 1.3.5 made the player a standalone free download for everyone.

The engine provides six fully independent layers, each with its own level, pan, pitch, and width controls. Every layer gets six dedicated effects slots for a total of 36 across the plugin, covering EQ, reverb, saturation, delay, and ZAK Sound's proprietary RaizesVerb and Wow/Flutter processors.

A built-in modulation engine links parameters to LFOs, mod wheels, and MPE gestures with custom curves and rhythmic pulses. Full MPE compatibility makes Raizes Player a strong match for expressive controllers like the Roli Seaboard or Sensel Morph.

Version 1.3.5 introduced a logic-based MIDI generator that produces harmonically accurate chord progressions across scales including Major, Lydian, and Phrygian Dominant. The update also added over 1,200 curated MIDI files organized into thematic categories and 58 factory presets spanning drones, evolving textures, and cinematic tension layers.

Seven expansion instruments are available from ZAK Sound starting at $27, covering everything from hybrid vocal pads to Buenos Aires field recordings. The companion RZ Mobile app adds wireless macro control and motion-modulated performance via tilt gestures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happened to make Raizes Player free?

Raizes Player was previously only available when purchasing one of ZAK Sound's paid instrument expansions. Starting with version 1.3.5 (released March 2026), ZAK Sound made the player itself a standalone free download. The paid instruments remain available separately starting at $27.

Do I need to buy instruments to use Raizes Player?

No. Raizes Player ships with 58 factory presets and over 1,200 MIDI files, so it works as a standalone creative tool out of the box. Seven optional expansion instruments from ZAK Sound add specialized sound libraries but are not required to use the player.

Does Raizes Player work with Pro Tools?

No. Raizes Player is available as VST3, AU, and Standalone. It does not include an AAX version, so it is not compatible with Pro Tools. It works with any DAW that supports VST3 or AU plugins.

What is the MIDI generator in Raizes Player?

The built-in MIDI generator creates harmonically accurate chord progressions across multiple scales including Major, Lydian, and Phrygian Dominant. It supports structures from simple triads to complex cluster chords and can export progressions directly to your DAW for use in other instruments.
