Key Features

  • A central Rand control creates a new generative synth patch whenever you need a fresh starting point.
  • Edit Current exposes the generated patch for hands-on refinement instead of locking you into a random result.
  • Two oscillators, five waveforms, and up to six unison voices provide a flexible subtractive-synthesis voice.
  • Four filter types, two LFOs, and an effects section extend the generated sounds into more shaped, moving textures.
  • Open/Save tools let you preserve useful discoveries and export banks for sharing or later recall.
  • A scalable interface and compact 35 MB download keep the instrument light for everyday idea generation.

Description

Rand, formerly called Push, is Sampleson's one-button generative subtractive synthesizer for quickly creating a fresh playable patch instead of beginning from an empty preset. Pressing the central control generates a new sound, while the Edit Current panel lets you keep exploring the result rather than treating randomization as a dead end.

The instrument combines two oscillators, five waveforms, up to six unison voices, four filter types, two LFOs, and an effects section. That gives the single-button idea enough conventional synth structure to turn an unexpected starting point into a bass, pad, lead, texture, or a more deliberate custom patch.

Rand also includes an arp/panic control and Open/Save functions for preserving ideas that deserve another session. Banks can be exported and shared, so its random engine works as a source of repeatable material rather than a stream of disposable happy accidents.

The interface is intentionally spare, making it a useful writing tool when auditioning sound directions quickly matters more than programming every oscillator from scratch. Its editable architecture also gives newcomers a direct way to connect a generated result with the synth controls behind it.

Sampleson currently presents Rand as an email-gated download with Windows and Mac VST, AU, and standalone builds, a 35 MB download, and no separate player requirement. The old Push name in the discovery lead is therefore corrected here to the developer's current Rand product page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What changed from Push to Rand?

Sampleson’s current official page identifies the product as Rand and explicitly calls it formerly Push. The core concept remains a generative synth that creates a new patch when you use its central control.

Can I edit a patch after Rand generates it?

Yes. The Edit Current panel exposes the generated sound for adjustment, so you can use a random result as a starting point and shape it into something more specific.

Can I save sounds I generate in Rand?

Yes. Sampleson documents Open/Save functions and bank export, so patches and banks can be retained and shared rather than recreated from memory.

Does Rand need Kontakt or another player?

No. Sampleson states that no extra purchase or third-party player is required. Rand is supplied as a standalone instrument and plugin formats for the platforms listed on its product page.
