Description

The Big Nessie is a free multi-instrument library for Kontakt Player, created by Abbey Road Studios in collaboration with fashion house Charles Jeffrey Loverboy. It combines field recordings from the Loverboy workshop at Somerset House with samples captured in Abbey Road's legendary Studio Two, all processed through the studio's vintage gear and acoustic spaces.

The keyboard interface divides into five playable sections: Loops, Drums, Bass, Synth, and Sound FX. Sources range from conventional instruments to unconventional techniques including objects struck by shoes, delivering warped percussive textures, tonal fragments, and experimental rhythms.

Eight macro controls shape the sound with character-themed names: Scowl (reverb), Chomp (bitcrusher), Spit (saturation), Pulse (brightness), Fang (distortion), Scale (spreader), Curl (low-pass filter), and Lure (tremolo). Each adds a distinct layer of processing that can push patches from ambient chill beats to grungy, distorted rhythms.

The interface features bespoke artwork by Charles Jeffrey depicting the Loch Ness Monster, matching the Spring/Summer 2026 Prepared Piano collection. The retro-gaming cartoon aesthetic makes it one of the most visually distinctive Kontakt instruments available.

The Big Nessie runs on the free Kontakt Player (version 8 or higher) with full NKS integration, making it accessible to producers at any budget. It requires a serial number obtained through Abbey Road's website and is installed via Native Access.
