British pop star PinkPantheress reveals she doesn’t listen to albums in full and questions the importance of tracklisting, advocating for musical freedom and expressing a desire to focus on producing for other artists.

PinkPantheress’ Listening Habits

In the interview, PinkPantheress, whose real name is Victoria Beverley Walker, stated, “I don’t listen to albums, I just listen to songs.”

This perspective influenced her approach to her own music.

She questioned the importance of tracklisting, saying, “That’s why when it came to my own album, I was like, do people care about tracklisting? I couldn’t believe it.”

She was surprised when some reviews of her album criticized the track order, to which she responded, “I’m like, just listen to the songs!”.

Embracing Musical Freedom

PinkPantheress, who rose to fame on TikTok with short, catchy tracks, further elaborated on her views via X (formerly Twitter). She argued that there is no right or wrong way to enjoy or create music.

“It’s people trying to say there is that stops people from enjoying and creating art in whichever form they want. Who cares if I listen to albums in full lol. It’s music, it’s meant to be unique to everyone”.

A Desire to Produce

Beyond her listening habits, PinkPantheress expressed a desire to delve deeper into music production.

She mentioned, “If somebody wants to call me into a studio, I always think it’ll be under the guise of doing production or writing. But at some point they’ll be like: ‘can you just jump on the song?’ I would love to be more behind the scenes of other people’s music”.

Impact of Short Songs

PinkPantheress also touched on her preference for shorter songs.

In a previous interview with ABC News, she stated, “A song doesn’t need to be longer than two minutes 30, in my opinion. We don’t need to repeat a verse, we don’t need to have a bridge, we don’t need it. We don’t need a long outro”

This approach has resonated with her audience, as her concise tracks have garnered millions of streams and significant chart success.

Why This Matters

PinkPantheress’ views challenge traditional norms in the music industry, emphasizing a shift towards more personalized and flexible ways of consuming music.

For music producers, this perspective encourages experimentation and the breaking of conventional rules. Her success with short, viral tracks on platforms like TikTok highlights the potential for innovative approaches to music production and marketing.

As the industry evolves, embracing diverse listening habits and production styles can open new avenues for creativity and audience engagement.
