Description
Xpander by OZ-Soft is a multi-effect plugin that combines stereo widening, unison detuning, chorus, ensemble, and EQ into a single interface. Developed by the team behind Dutch DJ and producer Ummet Ozcan, it transforms narrow or mono signals into wide, rich stereo images.
The interface is split into three panels: Widener, Unisono, and Enhancer. The Widener panel controls stereo spread with adjustable modulation speed, size, and size modulation for natural-sounding expansion.
The Unisono section layers and detunes the incoming signal to create a thicker, fatter sound. A Phatt knob sets the number of unison layers while separate dry/wet and detune intensity controls let you dial in subtle thickening or aggressive supersaw-style effects.
The Enhancer panel provides a two-band EQ for final tonal shaping. Boosting the highs adds crispness and presence, giving processed sounds a polished edge that sits well in a mix.
Xpander handles everything from subtle stereo enhancement on pads and vocals to extreme widening on leads and synths. Its 3D visual feedback display shows the stereo field in real time, making it easy to monitor width adjustments by ear and by sight.
Available in VST, VST3, and AU formats for Windows and macOS (64-bit only). The Windows installer is approximately 10 MB and the macOS version is 25 MB.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Xpander compare to Wider by Polyverse Music?
Both plugins widen the stereo image, but Xpander offers a broader feature set. In addition to stereo expansion, it includes unison detuning for thickening sounds and a two-band EQ for tonal shaping. Wider focuses purely on mono-compatible stereo widening with a single-knob interface.
Does Xpander cause phase issues in mono?
Stereo wideners inherently alter the phase relationship between left and right channels. Using moderate settings and checking your mix in mono is recommended. The Widener section's modulation parameters let you fine-tune the effect to minimize mono compatibility problems.
What does the Phatt knob do in the Unisono section?
The Phatt knob controls the number of unison voice layers applied to the incoming signal. Higher settings stack more detuned copies of the audio, producing a thicker, more supersaw-like texture. Combined with the detune intensity control, it can range from subtle thickening to extreme layered effects.
Can Xpander be used on a master bus?
Xpander can be used on a master bus for subtle stereo enhancement, but it is best suited to individual tracks or bus groups. Using the Widener at low settings with the Enhancer EQ for a gentle high-frequency lift can add polish without over-processing the full mix.
