Description

Atom by Sinevibes is a multi-mode resonant filter plugin for macOS built around tempo-synced modulation. It offers five filter types — low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch, and peaking — each with three slope settings ranging from -12 dB/octave up to a super-steep -48 dB/octave.

What sets Atom apart from conventional filter effects is its dual modulator system. Each modulator provides eight waveform shapes and can run at rates from 1/128 note all the way up to 16 bars, locking tightly to your DAW's tempo and time signature.

The chaos function randomizes the amplitude of each modulator cycle, injecting unpredictability into otherwise repeating patterns. A lag switch smooths the waveform curves, letting you dial between sharp rhythmic gating and fluid evolving sweeps.

Atom introduced Sinevibes' signal-flow interface design, which visually maps processing components and the audio connections between them. There are no nested menus — every parameter sits on the single-page UI for immediate tweaking.

The plugin leverages Apple's Core Animation framework for hardware-accelerated graphics and the Accelerate framework for optimized audio processing. It works with Logic, GarageBand, Ableton Live, Reaper, Studio One, Digital Performer, and any host that supports Audio Unit effect plugins.

Users note that the modulation capabilities reward experimentation, producing results that range from subtle rhythmic movement to complex evolving textures suitable for sound design and electronic music production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Atom work on Windows or with VST hosts?

No. Atom is a macOS-only Audio Unit (AU) plugin. It requires an Intel Mac running OS X 10.6 or later and only works in DAWs that support AU effect plugins such as Logic, GarageBand, Ableton Live, Reaper, and Studio One. There is no VST, VST3, or AAX version.

How does Atom's chaos function work?

The chaos function randomizes the amplitude of each modulator cycle individually. Rather than producing identical filter sweeps on every beat, each cycle varies in intensity, creating organic movement that avoids the mechanical feel of static LFO patterns. You can combine it with the lag switch to control how abruptly or smoothly those variations unfold.

Can Atom's modulators follow tempo changes in my DAW?

Yes. Atom features an advanced transport sync algorithm that responds to both tempo and time signature automation. The modulators stay locked to your project's timing even through tempo ramps and meter changes, so filter effects remain musically coherent throughout a track.

Is Atom compatible with Apple Silicon Macs?

Atom was designed for Intel Macs running OS X 10.6 or later. Sinevibes has not released an Apple Silicon native update for Atom, though it may still run under Rosetta 2 translation on M-series Macs. The developer's newer desktop plugins support Apple Silicon natively.
