Key Features

  • Interactive bezier curve path editor for drawing custom sound source trajectories around the listener
  • Independent pitch, volume, and pan scaling controls for precise adjustment of each Doppler parameter
  • Blend control mixes pitch-shifted output with the dry signal for chorus-like and modulated delay textures
  • MIDI note-on sync resets the path position to lock the effect with musical events and arrangements

  • Low CPU usage and stable performance verified across extended production sessions

Description

Doppler Dome by Aegean Music simulates the Doppler effect in real time, letting you shape how pitch, volume, and stereo position change as a virtual sound source moves along a custom path. The plugin uses an interactive bezier curve editor where you drag control points to define exactly how the source orbits, passes by, or circles around the listener.

At low speeds, the effect produces convincing real-world motion — a siren approaching and receding, a car sweeping past. Crank the speed higher and Doppler Dome transforms into a flexible modulation tool capable of chorus-like pitch thickening, auto-panning, tremolo, and vibrato effects.

Independent Pitch Scale, Volume Scale, and Pan Scale knobs let you dial in exactly how much each parameter responds to distance and position. The Blend control mixes the pitch-shifted signal back with the dry audio, creating textures similar to a modulated delay or ensemble chorus.

A MIDI note-on message resets the path position, making it possible to sync the effect tightly with musical events. The envelope editor supports both one-shot and looping playback modes, giving you control over whether the motion repeats or plays through once.

Developed by the team behind the well-regarded Pitchproof harmonizer, Doppler Dome runs with low CPU overhead and has proven stable across extended sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Doppler Dome differ from a standard chorus or tremolo plugin?

Instead of using a fixed LFO shape, Doppler Dome lets you draw a custom bezier path that simultaneously modulates pitch, volume, and pan based on the simulated distance and position of the sound source. This produces more organic, physically accurate movement than a simple sine or triangle wave modulator.

Can Doppler Dome be synced to my DAW's tempo?

The plugin responds to MIDI note-on messages, which reset the path position. You can send MIDI notes from your DAW on the beat to synchronize the Doppler motion with your arrangement. The path also supports looping mode for continuous rhythmic modulation.

Does the plugin introduce latency or timing delays?

Doppler Dome produces slightly delayed output by design, because the effect simulates sound traveling across distance. The pitch shifting also affects playback speed, so the output timing shifts relative to the input based on your distance and pitch settings.

What plugin formats are supported?

Doppler Dome is available as a VST plugin for Windows (both 32-bit and 64-bit) and as both VST and Audio Units for macOS. There is no AAX or CLAP version currently available.
